What do you work on?

My role is Technical Director for a 501(c)3 organization that installs water pumps in African villages.  Then we add a satellite-based device to monitor pumps. The data is routed through Globalstar to Google Sheets then on to AppSheet.   

What expertise do you have to share or what are you learning?

My background is mechanical engineering, hence the water pump part.  I am a learner when it comes to AppSheet.  However, what attracted me to AppSheet was the ease that Google has made to write minimal-code Apps.  Thanks, AppSheet.  You have placed a powerful tool in the hands of inexperienced people.  That tool, in turn, is helping remote villagers in Africa and the organizations that support those villages.  I have nothing useful to share.  

What would you like to get out of this Community?

My goal in this community is to find answers to questions that might be a little bit beyond the current AppSheet help.  The range of topics and depth of solutions have already been helpful.   And all this is supplemented by those excellent video tutorials on YouTube by Matt from MTV.  Thanks, Matt!  You explain complex topics so well.

Most of you who have contacted AppSheet support early days, have probably discussed with me. My journey with AppSheet started somewhere 2014 when I found the platform from gSheet's add-ons. I started as an technical specialist in the beginning of 2018 after a small phone call with Praveen (one of the AS founders) day before Christmass eve when he was on a vacation in India. After that discussion my wife said to me.. "You are not allowed to say no to Praveen", and then I didn't have any other choises 🙂 I estimated quickly that I have probably answered 20..25k support tickets 🙂 Unfortunately my contract ended in the end of 2022, but the plan is to come back.

What would you like to get out of this Community?
Just trying to share all the knowledge I have from the last 9 years.

What do you do for fun?
Building everything with my hands.

I am very proficient at excel with a number of certifications in formulas and VBA. I'm hoping to grasp Appsheet and use my naivety to hopefully news ways of doing things in Appsheet. I love simple and aesthetically pleasing apps.

Tengo una técnica en analisis y desarrollador de software, pero desde que me dí cuenta de esta super herramienta Appsheet hice un giro de 360° por varias razones; la rapidez y  la agilidad con la que se ejecutan los proyectos, lo intuitivo que es tanto como para el desarrollador como para el usuario final y el mas importante, factor tiempo.

En la comunidad hay muchos usuarios Senior y con tu experiencia Rodrigo seguir apoyandonos, por que a mi en especial  hay momentos en la creacion de las app que uno ejecuta los pasos como deben ser pero salen ciertos errores o bug que a veces no alcanzo a comprender.

Vivo en Barranquilla, al Norte del Colombia, Soy emprededor en el sector de las Pinturas, aunque tambien trabajo como profesor ocasional. Realmente creeria ser el mas nuevo en empezar a utilizar Appsheet, me ha servido encontrar estos espacios, porque he despejado dudas y ya estoy terminando mi primera aplicacion para el control de inventarios.

Me gustaria aprender mucho sobre temas de desarrollo, creo que este es un buen espacio para ello. Quiero desarrollar una aplicacion que utilize la camara del celular para determinar colores y las proporciones de las mezclas para obtenerlos.

En realidad me apasiona mucho aprender cosas nuevas, aprender de otras personas e integrar esos conocimientos a desarrollos tangibles

What do you work on?

Mostly I work on myself, that is I am semi-retired (that's where I think I'm retired and my wife thinks I should work still). So mostly it's riding my bike, working about the house, travelling and tinkering in small apps like this to help me in my volunteering capacity

What expertise do you have to share or what are you learning?

Very little expertise. Tons of practical knowledge, from my career in Pharmacy, my many volunteer positions on sports groups, Surf Life Saving and general tinkering. So far Im finding AppSheet very frustrating as expressions i KNOW should resolve just simply aren't... check my questions to the community around this.

What would you like to get out of this Community?

Hello there!

My name is Lynda and I literally JUST discovered AppSheet  about 10 minutes ago. I am currently in the "idea" stage of creating a project that will take a few years and tons of volunteers to help complete, and I have NO idea how to store all of the data that we're trying to find.  I need it to be searchable for everyone as well as update-able by anyone with permission.  

In what part of the world do you reside?

I live in a small town in West Virginia called Shepherdstown.  It's said to be the oldest town in the state, even before the separation from Virginia.  Lots of history here and Shepherdstown played a HUGE part in the battle of Antietam.

What do you work on?

I'm proposing a project to the Executive board of Elmwood Cemetery to document every single grave site, with or without a headstone and create a database that will assist other genealogists, historians and students in searching out their history.  We have 3 books with information, none of which are cross referenced with each other.  There's 2 books of the undertaker's notes beginning in 1897 and is still being worked on by my local DAR Pack Horse Ford chapter.  It contains names, dates and places of burial (only the cemetery), as well as cause of death and even everything that was charged to the family for services. (casket, how many handles on the casket, clothes on the deceased, etc). Everything but a location of burial within the cemetery. Next there's a book just titled "Elmwood Cemetery" which contains names and inscriptions on the headstones, but no location within the cemetery, like Row, Site #, Line, GPS, etc. 
Now the best part, I discovered stacks and stacks of headstones behind the cemetery in the woods. Just stacked up on one another. Hundreds of them.  Most being lost to time and covered in lichen and worn down by weather and age. And, apparently, when they built the houses next to the cemetery and the giant eyesore of a hotel/conference center next to the houses, there's stories of headstones, bones, jewelry, etc. pulled up during excavating... no record or any archaeological study performed during that time.  Nothing.  Picture the 1982 movie "Poltergeist"... "You only moved the headstones, didn't cha?! You left the bodies but only moved the headstones!" as bodies are popping out of the muddy pit of the swimming pool and for some reason out of the garage. 

What expertise do you have to share or what are you learning?

ZERO Technological skills.  I'm a genealogist, so I can research. And apparently the amazingly useless ability to quote movie lines and trivia stored away somewhere in my head.   

What would you like to get out of this Community?

I desperately need ideas. Ideas and guidance to be able to create, maintain, share and eventually publish my findings physically and digitally for websites like Ancestry, Find a Grave, etc.  So designing a database to contain names, engravings, locations, GPS maybe and a whole bunch of things I can't think of.  I basically don't know what I don't know. 

What do you do for fun?

I run. Trail running is my Zen and psychiatrist all rolled into one painful little place.  I love to research my family history and travel to the places it leads me.  I am a fanatic over horror movies, good and bad, found footage is my poison of choice, but am currently digging the S. Korean and Indian horrors (America can be so watered down! LOL).  I also have a German Shepherd who's my sweet little angel baby.

First of all, wow, its been 3 weeks or so since I first discovered AppSheet and it is already changing my life. I have been struggling with technology, development for more than 5 years now and often wondered if I should actually go and learn coding. 

I have been to able achieve more with app sheet in 3 weeks than in the last 5 years. Google should tell the whole world about this LOUDly.

What expertise do you have to share or what are you learning?

• I'm a beginner learner of Google AppSheet. However I used to be interested in user interface designs of Excel VBA and MATLAB GUI and app designer. I always try to find good solutions to build not only nicely shown but also robust UIs, for either complicated or simple applications. Hopefully while I am learning what I need in this community, others can also see and learn my designs here.

My background (20 years ago) was in graphic design, html and way back in SQL & cold fusion. I ended up learning Appsheet very recently because the person who did this job before me had already started the project with it.

I am still learning to be OK with not having 100% control over the visual side of apps. It might be the hardest aspect IMO. Well, that and wrestling with enumlists from Ref tables. argh.

What would you like to get out of this Community?

Compassion, patience. I don't need to be spoonfed solutions but I am very new to appsheet, and it's only about 10% of what I do at my job, so I don't have the same depth of knowledge and insight as most others here.

I've been developing document/contract automation and reporting systems for nearly 30 years. Started with insurance, then legal. Currently, I write productivity apps for a large tech company. Google Apps Script, BigQuery, SQL Server, Python, PowerApps/Power Automate, Sharepoint. They've started pushing toward AppSheet as they are committed to a Google Workspace environment.

I review code and mentor some App Script developers and data analysts as well as develop my own solutions.

The stuff you see above. I've also authored two books for Pearson on IT careers and a number of articles across various disciplines.

What would you like to get out of this Community?
I'm tasked with making AppSheet work and provide best practices and other guidance. I've been perusing solutions others have created and see what will work in our environment.

Funny story.. when I read that you authored a couple books on IT careers, I turned to my bookshelf and sure enough, I've read, Building Your I.T. Career: A Complete Toolkit for a Dynamic Career in Any Economy!
