Open form with column ready for entry

Created an app which uses barcodes. The column accepting barcode values is called scancode.
How do you make a form always open with one of the fields (columns) ready for entry?

I want to open the form with the scancode column selected and ready for entry.

If you haven’t yet, you might try the option “Advance forms automatically” found under UX->Options->Forms. I have found limited success with it.

Pay attention to the description text - only advances automatically for REQUIRED fields.

Other than that, I know of no way to force cursor to specific field and open ready for input.
