Using App Sheet for reports vs Data Studio (App design and arthitecture)

Hello all.

I am converting a previously built Sheets application (multiple sheets and files) into an AppSheet app.

The overall result is a lot better !

I do have a question though. I did generate a reporting tool, used for daily verification on people on site, role and activities for that day. this was built using a pivot table, with a linked date filter

one of the multiple reporting tables would be for example :

I now have all the data in Appsheet, with a different structure nevertheless, but all the data.

Generating this type of report (not a chart) seems complicated (the Charts proposed dont seem to flexible enough)..

I saw a solution of creating a table with the sum formula, and then showing the result in a dashboard (detail view of just one cell).. but this seems convoluted..

would it be better to build out the reports outside of AppSheet and use Data studio? (we can easily add a link in the app to the right report......)

your thoughts? suggestions? How do you integrate reporting dashboards in AppSheet ?

Thanks

My personal opinion.

Reporting in AppSheet is not its forte.

So I would use Data Studio, which is a more powerful reporting tool, if AppSheet does not offer what you need.

I think a lot depends on customizability vs convenience...

You can do almost whatever you want with the right expression and the right layout

I use this approach for reporting :  AppSheet App DataBase (tables) -> Google BigQuery (query) -> Google Sheet (results). Then you can have a pivot table based on the query results. See https://www.googlecloudcommunity.com/gc/Feature-Ideas/Google-Big-Query/idc-p/228279/highlight/true#M...
