You have to add someone as a co-author

 Not exactly.  Only if the original poster wants us to make app changes as well.

There are two ways to handle this:

1) Explicitly add the user (as suggested).  Adding as co-author means giving the user EDIT privileges.  But you can also add a person as a USER which allows only viewing of the app.

2)  You can also set the app to "Allow all signed-in users"  as shown in the image.  This means ANY user who successfully authenticates through the "Authentication provider" can gain access to the ap as a USER.  You do not need to explicitly list users in this case.

Actually he said "help me to fix my apps"  not "fix my apps".  I suppose it could be interpreted either way - key word being "interpreted".

I personally don't like to assume.
