Columns - space for notes describing calculations and setup

For each column in an app (virtual or physical), i wish there was a non-displayed “notes” area where i could capture a note explaining the formula I used, or why I only used Initial Value, or what this column depended on. I often make tweaks to a column setup but it can be very hard to remeber exactly why i set things up the way I did. Take an app with 8-10 tables and 10-20 columns per table and it can be difficult…
