Match date in start date to date on calendar

This is a simple request that my non technical collaborator keeps mentioning.
If you go to day other than today is there a way to have date fields auto populate for the date selected in the calendar object ?

TODAY() works fine for an initial value if you want it but it is not accurate for yesterday.

I am assuming there is a function but I have not found it.

Did I ask the question correctly ? Is this truly a new feature request ?
Here is what I am trying to do with images using TODAY() as an initial value doesn’t work for other dates. How would I do this , is it possible ?

I want the date in the form to match the date I picked in the calendar

Yes this is a feature request as you don’t have option to select the date from the calendar view for the initial value.
