Event attendee status not changing in Outlook

We have google workspace and almost all users access google calendar via browser or app. Howver, some use outlook and they have these issues: when someone accepts an invite to an event, that is not updated in outlook. The invite can be sent but it isn't shown whether and attandee accepted the invite. 

We already use outlook google calendar sync and have of course tried to re-login on all client devices. It really is the applications outlook and google calendar that seemingly do not hand over this status to each other. Since the users are insistent on using Outlook, how can this be brought to them?

Google Calendar and Outlook don't play nicely together. By far the best experience to be had with Google Calendar is by going to calendar.google.com or using the official iOS/Android apps. 

If these users are insistent on using Outlook, Google Workspace Sync for Microsoft Outlook (GWSMO) may help improve things some--see https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/171710?hl=en for the details. (Maybe you know this part already and that's the "outlook google calendar sync" you referred to?)
