Google searchbar does not function properly - help!

I have no idea if i'm on the right forum for this here, but i need help concerning a weird phenomenon on my google chrome.
Whenever I type something thats not a link to a site in the top searchbar on google chrome and press enter, google does not switch to its page, but instead sends me to it's home page: google.com, without ever having done anything with the text I put in the search bar. I have to type it all again there, and then it works, but it is still quite annoying having to go to a new google page to look something up quickly.

If anyone knows whats the problem here, help is appreciated!

Yes, it also does not funcition normally in incognito.
