Hi, my name is Tracy Saunders.

In what part of the world do you reside? I live in Rocklin, CA - a city about 20 minutes or so north of Sacramento.

What do you work on? Right now, I am unemployed, but I did recently go through the class from Google and Coursera.org and got my Google IT Support Specialist Certificate, so I am looking for work in that regard. I ended up getting Google Workspace for two reasons. One, to familiarize myself with the suite of applications and the Admin Portal in case I end up supporting these applications in the future, and two, I heard it offers more security than a regular free Gmail account.

What expertise do you have to share or what are you learning?  I have over 25 years working with Microsoft 365 applications and have worked in Excel creating Pivot Tables, Charts, and Graphs.  While doing this, while working for AT&T, I was my group's "IT" guy that they would call over before contacting our helpdesk. which many times, took a while to get on and get help.

What would you like to get out of this community? I am constantly learning (that's life, right?) and want to be well rounded for future IT positions that I may find myself in - especially for those whose companies may be using the Google Workspace Platform.

What do you do for fun? Outside of what I do for a living, I am a nature photographer, as well as a Scuba Diver. I would love to take my photographer skills and use them underwater. There are some amazing things down there.

Hello Tracy,

Are you there to answer a quick question for me on taking online courses with Coursera?

Sure, Whar is your question? Please realize that it's been a couple of years for me now since I've been on the site, and I'm sure there have been some changes since then.

Thanks for replying!

I was wondering if could get your opinion on taking courses with Coursera online? I see you have taken a course with Coursera. If so, the questions I have are, is Coursera legit with their online courses training? Some course providers just glazed over the content and not give total details of what is being thought. Example: They just provide just enough information needed to pass the exam and not explain what they are teaching. So, does Coursera explain in details so you understand what in being taught? I am a Google Workspace Admin that got laid off in Feb 2023 due to a reduction in force and wanting to get my Professional Google Workspace Administrator Certification. So, taking the course with Coursera would I have ample knowledge of what is being taught vs. just having the verbiage to pass the exam. I have experience via on the job but want more knowledge to fill in the blanks of what I haven't used on the job. I appreciate any feedback on Coursera courses you can provide if you have time. Thanks in advance!

I can't give much, as I only went through one course, and that class was all taught by Google Employees, so it was a class act. Since you're going for your Google Workspace Admin Certificate, I imagine it will be the same for you: the courses are all taught by Google Employees. Don't know, but I would definitely check it out.

Marvelous! Thanks for the feedback. Your time was very much appreciated.

Hi, I'm Richard living in Scotland.

I administer 3 Workspace domains and 2 M365 tenants (including a split domain with active users in both Workspace and M365).
I develop solutions that leverage blockchain/DLT, provide digital transformation consultancy, have a long involvement with networking and platform technologies, and coach/mentor/supervise postgrad students.

I enjoy digging deep into technology soutions and pushing them to the edge, and (sometimes) beyond where they were originally conceived to go.

Hopefully this community will be a catalyst for getting even more out of Workspace.

Learning is fun - but I also have have a vintage VW campervan which is also fun.

Hi, Im Jonathan, I live une France Near Strasbourg and work in a company with 3000 employees
I'm admin from all the collaborative tools in the company, also Google workspace admin since September 2020.
I registered here in order to be able to find help in case of need or to be able to help others, because I am sure, there is always someone who blocks where we have been blocked ourselves one day

Don't know if you can use this or not due to your company's security settings, but I've also found YouTube to be a good resource.

My name is Tunde, I am an IT support specialist and founder of Tunnyville Technologies a new IT support business promoting Google Cloud services and products, especially Google Workspace and GCP.

I am currently taking the Google IT Support Specialist courses on Coursera. I have completed the first two courses, IT support Fundamental and The Bits and Bytes of Computer Networking. I am starting the third course along my path "Becoming a Power user".

I reside in Abuja, Nigeria, West Africa.

I would like to get help for any challenges I face using Google Workspace and GCP. I will like to learn from skilled workspace users and App script users.

I love music and space exploration. I also love movies and travelling.

Thank you for your time in reading this! ๐Ÿ˜€

Tunde, I came through that same program, Welcome to the community! I just completed my class earlier this month (June 10).

Wow, that's nice Tracy. Have you completed all the courses on the path?

Yes, I have. It was a good class to go through, a little challenging at times, but it was a good class.

Tunde, for me the System Admin course was a little challenging as well as the Security portion (which is the last one). There was a lot to learn in both of those courses.

Have you gotten a job yet?

Not yet, but I am looking. I do have three companies that look pretty promising.

How did you get them? Did Google link you up? Do you have an IT Degree or is it 100% the Google IT support Specialist certification?

All three were ones that I found. I haven't had any success with CareerCircle yet. I only have the certificate, no degree. I do eventually plan on getting my CompTia A+ though.

Is the ComTia A+ equivalent to a degree? Google actually said within 6 months, right? Will Google give a job to people that complete the IT support specialist course?

No, It's a certificate itself.  It just means that you've been through some training and have taken a test, thus proving that you have the skills and understanding to do the job that requires it.  I don't think it's an automatic job with Google after the training. That would be nice, but I don't think so. The job placement assistance is with Coursera, not Google. Google I think just provided the instructors for the class.

Now am sad. I had my hopes very high!

Hello.  My name is Erica and I live in Southern California, USA.  I work for a company that changed over to Google Workspace a few years ago.  I'm part of the Change Management team and this role has recently led me to become the only current "Google trainer" in my organization (about 15K employees in the US).

Being fairly new to the Google side of educating, I have a lot to learn.  Some people at my company know much more than I so I read articles and practice as much as possible, although I would still consider myself between novice and an intermediate user for our company-offered Google applications.

I am looking for tips and tricks, those easy things we should know but may not.  I'm also looking for application update information before it comes out so I may be aware and advise where necessary of upcoming changes.  I subscribe to Google Workspace updates and am unsure if this is the correct forum for those topics.  Overall, I'm looking to learn more, not only for my own knowledge but also to pass that on.

Being in Southern CA, I love going to the beach to kayak or ride bikes during the summer months.  Wintertime is spent in the mountains playing in the snow.  Year-round I enjoy hiking, gardening, and being around loved ones.

If you are looking for a good resource to go to, YouTube has a lot of videos. There is an organization called ITGenius, out of Australia that has some good videos on the Workspace platform itself.

Welcome @Ericapulver ! We have a number of people focused on change management and adoption in this community including @gemma_mcclure2. We are also going to be working with @GdayWayne 's customer success team to bring in content and meetups specific to these topics.

Thank you for tagging me Andrew.

Hi Erica, nice to 'e-meet' you ๐Ÿ˜‰

I work for a company called Travis Perkins PLC based in the UK... we employ just over 20,000 colleagues. My role is Google Adoption Lead, so I have a similar task to you, in that I need to deliver and provide training and communication updates to all of the colleagues in our business. We migrated to Google Workspace back in 2013 (was called GSuite then) and the adoption was extremely high, however over the years this has decreased, hence being recruited to bring the adoption score back up to where it should be!  I would be happy to chat to you if you as we may be able to help and support each other ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope you have a great day

Gemma

Hello Gemma, your job mist be very interesting. I set-up Google workspace for companies in Nigeria, especially start ups. It will be interesting for me to learn from you guys in he community. Cheers!

Hi, Erica!

Though I work through the lens of Google Workspace for Education, I am a Google Certified Trainer and have been training adults in Google applications for over 10 years now. Reach out if you have any specific questions.

Wow, Ccata, I am about to begin learning Google Workspace in Skill shop. I'll like to learn from you too.

Hi, my name is Bryce and I live in Australia.  I was invited here by google support to put forward my ideas to which there is currently  no solution.  I'm not sure if this is the right area to be putting forward these ideas or if it's simply for an introduction so I have merged the introduction and the problems I have together.  Please point me in the right direction if I should be posting  my ideas elsewhere!!

I work on a tug boat within a team of 6, bringing ships in and out of port.  We work for 28 days straight and then have 28 days off.  The team is split in to two crews of three and whilst one crew is working their 28 days, the other crew is off.  I have two problems that I would like to put forward some solutions to hopefully be actioned and in turn, resolve them.

Problem 1:

We have found that the best way for us to record and communicate important information is through a diary on Google docs which is saved on Google drive and shared to the team so everyone has access.   Here lies the problem!  The internet on a Tug boat at sea is not the best and whilst very slow, can have a tendency to cut in and out  (think back to the dial up days with multiple incoming calls always cutting you off!!!).  This is especially frustrating when opening Google docs to make an entry in to the diary. We have hundreds of pages in the Diary which gives us a history of the Tug from day one - problems we have had, machinery failures, appointments for contractors to come and make repairs etc etc.  Each time we open the diary in Google Docs, it opens at the top of page 1 and we have to wait for the internet to catch up and load the pages to allow us to scroll to the bottom of the page.  Here's my ideas:

Solution 1 - Make a function to enable Google docs to open where you left off typing each time you open it.  This could be a toggle button to turn it on and off for those who prefer or require Docs to open at the top of page 1.

Solution 2 - Make a function to allow users to invert a google doc.  Again a toggle switch or setting could be applied to turn this feature on and off.  By inverting the Doc, I mean flip it so that what was the last page is now page one and what was page one is now the last page.  When you start typing after inverting the doc, the text would be at the top of page one but still flow downwards line by line, the same way as if it were not inverted.

Problem 2 - We currently have no way of knowing if someone who has read/write access rights has amended an individual document we have saved in the share drive.  Whilst we can check the version history which has a wealth of knowledge in terms of who has opened and  modified a document, including date , time and even highlights/crosses out the changes made, there is no option to set up a notification for the group who has access to this document/drive, meaning we have to constantly keep checking documents to see if changes have been made, which with our superfast kbit/min internet is also frustrating!!!

There is already a notification option which you can toggle on/off to enable email notifications be sent out to all who has access to the drive when an individual comment has been made to a document but currently there is no option for the above mentioned.

Solution - Make a function to allow users the ability to toggle on/off email notifications for each time an individual document in the shared drive is accessed and or modified.  This would allow us to then open the document and see what changes had been made once we receive the email notification showing a date and time the document was modified/accessed..

Please make this happen for us!!!

Thanks.

Hi Bryce,

I am not expert, but it sounds like AppSheet could be a solution to both of these issues... it might be worth exploring that as an option maybe?

Take care

Thanks Gemma, I'll check it out!

Here's a possible workaround for your first problem:

If the person adding to the diary document could use the Find/Replace feature (Ctrl-H on a PC), then they would be able to look for the previous day's date. That would get them at least to the last entry of the document.

Thanks Tracy, similar to Ctrl F?  I'll give it a go!

Yes, it is. Hopefully, there will be something where you guys won't have to work with slow internet.
