I was having a similar problem. I had multiple types of child records and although each child type seemed configured identically, one child type would disappear from the child list after syncing was complete after adding a child from the parent detail view. The only difference I could see was that before creating the ref column in the child table that connected it to the parent, I had created another ref that connected the child to another table. I deleted both ref columns and, when recreating the columns, I made the ref with the main parent table before adding the second reference. Somehow that seemed to make the difference for me.
