Exciting updates to Predictive Models in AppSheet!

AppSheet allows you to create predictive models using machine learning from the Intelligence pane. These predictive models can be support a variety of scenarios including things like:

  • Categorizing user feedback
  • Generating customer health scores
  • Estimating project costs
  • Forecasting trends

So what is changing?

We will be releasing a major update to the predictive model system. This will align the solution with the best-in-class tools for ML models and position us to introduce many exciting new features moving forward. The new update should be mostly invisible to you for now, with a few caveats:

  • Model training will take slightly longer than it did before (sometimes more than 10 minutes). When a model is training, you donโ€™t need to wait for it. You can continue to edit your app while you wait. Return to the Predictive Model details to get up-to-date information about the results. We will be working on reducing this training time moving forward and providing more clarity on the current training status.
  • The feature importance report will be going away temporarily. We will restore this in a future release.

What happens if I am currently using a model in my application?

If you have an already built model that you are using in your application, it will continue to work without any action. We recommend that you retrain these models in the coming months to leverage the new improvements moving forward. We will be deprecating the support of the old models in the second half of 2021, and will make retraining models much easier by then. If you are experiencing any issues with old models after the release, please let us know as soon as possible.

This is the first step in many exciting improvements we have planned for predictive models in 2021. As always, feedback and suggestions are welcome!
