Feature: Sending SMS Messages

Want to send SMS messages with your app? Receiving an error? Give the following a try:

What is a SMS message?
SMS stands for “short messaging service” and is used for text messaging on your mobile device. With your AppSheet application you can send SMS messages as individual messages or in bulk. Every action (in this case SMS messages) has to be “triggered” by some event that causes it to run. As the app creator, you get to control these triggers.

Where do I set up SMS messaging?
The ability to initiate SMS messaging from your application is a customizable action that is part of your applications behavior settings. This action is called an external communication, which means that when such an action is run, it causes some information to be sent to an external service (e.g., a push notification or an SMS message). This action is then integrated with your workflow rules. The reference documents linked in this section can help better explain the concepts we will be referencing, but we’ll walk you through where to find actions and behaviors below.

  1. To find where you’ll need to make adjustments for SMS messaging, open your app editor by selecting the app you’d like to work on.
  2. The navigation bar on the left side displays a tab titled “Behavior." Click this tab.
  3. Once you’re in the behavior tab you’ll find a navigation bar along the top of your editor. The first tab is the “Actions” section. Click this tab.
  4. Once you’re in this tab you’ll see either a blank section (due to no actions currently set) or a list of actions you’ve set previously that you can modify. To add a new action, click the “add a new action” button. This can be found in the actions area of your editor.
  5. You can now set actions such as SMS messages.
