I believe that the very first time the “select an icon” pane is displayed, no icon ends up being displayed if none is explicitly selected. But once one is selected, I’m not able to select that no icon be displayed. Is there any way of doing that? Thanks.

Try tapping the currently selected icon and it should “unselect” it?
