Is it Y/N or N/Y?

I have a question and a little note on how I resolved the issue I came across.

First the issue:

A “Y/N” column in my app looked like this:

I wanted it to change the display order from “N/Y” to “Y/N” so I put the following in “Data validity”:

It worked:

So my issue is basically resolved but I have a couple of questions:

  1. Why does “N” come first even though this is called a “Y/N” column?
  2. The platform has a customization function that is a bit more intuitive than the “Data validity” expression I used (see “Yes/No display values” above). As is the case with a list put in the data validity spot, you can change the displayed values but the app will continue to write TRUE and FALSE to your sheet. However, unlike the data validity slot, the customization tool doesn’t let you adjust the order in which Y and N are displayed. Isn’t this a problem?

Try in this way.

Good solution! It does the same thing. Still, it would be nice to be able to reorder with the customization section into which you typed the Japanese. The need to use “Valid if” makes the platform harder for beginners – and for me, even after many years using AppSheet.

In the meantime, yes the default order of yea no is currently upside down. Naturally yes comes first followed by no from my prospective.
