Menu Shortcut to Escape Breadcrumbs

I have a message board feature in my app and after following a few links (views) I want to quickly get back to the menu, rather then pressing the back arrow repeatedly.

Is there a technique to enable the furthest back view so the menu icon is available or an action which will pop-open the menu list?

At the moment, the only available option is to click on one of the buttons on the bottom pane. Not ideal I know
