Bug in Text type and LongText type

I set a field to type Text and when I typed in “Monday 7/2”, it would save as number, in this case, the number was 44014. I changed the type of the field to LongText and it saved the number. Is there any reason why it is giving me this strange number?

Make sure the spreadsheet column format is plain text.
