Google WorkSpace Updates - Appsheet Affected - 1st May

Hi,

I wanted to try and clarify the notification 'Display images and documents hosted on Google Drive'. It says that 1st May the changes can affect created Apps so want to clarify things:

1. You need to update occurrences of the Google Drive download URL in all of the following locations:

  • Data sources, for example, Google Sheets and Cloud SQL This is not stating that the datasource locations need checking is it? The Google Sheet locations are simply using Source ID

2. My App Logo is https://www.appsheet.com:443/fsimage.png?appid=30cba352-b292-45ef-8eac-88ac8e51b6f0&datasource=googl... So my understanding is that will not be affected. Is that correct?

3. Templates for PDF attachments. These were selected using the choose file so are simply showing the DOC ID (DocId=14Bp7NevAV0FZUkF39pT9zQiXA_bwfo-zO for instance).

4. I use images in a custom menu but the images used were uploaded using the App so it's not pointing to a location because it is saving the image in it's own location. Will that be ok?

The information in the notification is not entirely clear so just wanted clarification.

As far as I have understood, it only affects "drive.google.com/uc" URL links, not others.

#1 - Nothing to do with your data source itself. Just if you have a column or cell where the URL starts with "drive.google.com/uc" is in use.
#2 - Correct
#3 - It should not affect
#4 - Yes

Thank you. That is a big relief!

Another quick question, my App also provides links to external documents but the links are simply read from the datasource. The behaviour when clicking on the item is it simply runs the associated URL link. Those links are to PDF documents. As it is simply a link (and the links are still working outside of the App), will that be affected?

It depends what the URL is. What is the start of your URL?

 https://drive.google.com/File

It is that dreaded drive.google.com but not the drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=File_ID

As far as I have understood, it only affects "drive.google.com/uc" URL links, not others.

Thank you for clarifying that. Fingers crossed for 1st May!

You're welcome!

I have URLs in the format drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=File_ID, and they haven't worked for me for a couple of months now. Looking at the documentation, I honestly can't find what changes I should make. I tried asking Bing Copilot, and he concluded that I should change "view" to "download" in the export parameter, but it didn't work. Has anyone found how to update the urls for it to work again?

To be honest Jonathan, all my images have been setup using Appsheet's image import facility. So all my images for menu etc are contained within it's own data. So using a UX form, I simply import those images and re-use them when I require them. It does make it so much simpler.

Thanks for your response Domearian, although I don't quite understand your approach. In my case, I use the images uploaded through appsheet on a website, so what I did was, using a script, obtain the url of the image and save it in another field of the same record or row. That is, it converted this: Articulos_Images/art4c5cf618.Foto AppSheet 1.174440.jpg into this: https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=1NLq_3YWUpOzl9Ohxh_TLP7eMBQPY-z2y. When https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id= ID stops working, I need to know how to modify that url to continue viewing the images.

You don't need to use script copying its URL to another field. Just copy the path and file name.. which means copying this.. "Articulos_Images/art4c5cf618.Foto AppSheet 1.174440.jpg"
