Sum function requires numeric inputs

The select() statement below should return numeric inputs because the column only has numbers. What am I doing wrong?

If you’ve just changed the column type for the How many samples collected? column and hadn’t yet saved the change before entering this expression, Expression Assistant won’t be aware of the new column type. In this case, save the change to the column type and re-try creating this virtual column.
