Hi AppSheet Community
As someone who is in the App Editor 24/7, I frequently catch myself trying to remember the syntax for a particular expression, re-reading a formula several times to figure out where my missing parentheses are, or searching my mind for some fancy formula I put together ages ago.
I know many of you have experienced the same.
To make life a little easier on our favorite app making platform, the QREW Technologies team has released the first version of a Chrome Extension, QREW TOOLS, that adds some cool features to help address those pain points:
LIVE EXPRESSION FORMATTING
IN-EDITOR DOCUMENTATION SEARCHING
SAVE AND INSERT CUSTOM FORMULA SNIPPETS
I hope you guys enjoy this and that it helps you get more enjoyment and productivity out of the AppSheet Platform.
Please give me a shout if you have any feature suggestions or find any bugs
Thanks @DidierL!
For the feature request, are you wanting to see a list of all formulas applied to a particular table?
Yes, for a particular table (and fields, slice and action).
But may be also filtered by type: Formula, Show if, Valid if…
This would give a much better control over the code, and ease copy paste from one table to another.

Good. God.
I’m gunna go with the original.
Oh No!
Baller!
Loving the update!!
Holy crap
@Stefan_Quartemont
When can we expect this?
Itching for this so badly.
@Jonathan_S I know the feel bro, i’ve been annoying them just about everywhere in order to get the release date; forums, youtube, slack…
Stefan said the autocomplete could be rolled out as early as Monday next week !
EVEN MORE HYPE
Where can I buy Stock? lmao
This feature deserves all the parrots! (at least all the parrots I have downloaded to make into custom slack emojis)
@Austin_Lambeth, I hate you.
I have the new AppSheet Toolbox. I would like to completely disable the autocomplete, as it interferes with keyboard navigation–I can’t move the cursor up and down. I don’t see an option to disable the feature.
Adding it in today
Also, it’s unexpected that pressing Esc while autocomplete is active closes Expression Assistant. I’d expect it merely to close autocomplete, as autocomplete appeared to have focus.
I’ve added a Setting (Click the Extension Icon) to turn on/off the Autocomplete feature.
Very sorry that put a wrinkle in your AppSheet flow.
Regarding the ESC button… It would normally close the Autocomplete Widget, but AppSheet’s mapping of that key seems to supersede the functionality.
Best way to close the widget is with a Left or Right Arrow Key
Feature suggestion:
I prefer lowercase expressions in my own apps. All of the autocomplete function names are uppercase. I suggest the suggestion case match the case of the first one or two characters of the initial text:
That a good suggestion, Steve!
This actually makes appsheet expression editor feel normal to my programmer fingers!
As the Extension is getting more feature rich, and some of the features are a bit delicate/primitive, I’ve put together an OFFICIAL USER GUIDE
A link to this guide will be added in the extension and in other places for better visibility. If i’m missing anything in here, please DM me and I’ll review. Thanks!!
I noticed _thisrow isn’t in the autocomplete
Good Point! This is not a Column described in our current data model (because it’s not part of any of the app’s data tables). I will try to manually define it and add it in for the next release.
You might also consider [_THIS]
, [_THISROW_BEFORE]
, and [_THISROW_AFTER]
.
Loving the auto complete… Thanks @Stefan_Quartemont…
This is fricken Insane. Well Done. Well done…
Thanks for the props! If you wanna drop a quick review on our store page, that would be awesome.
@Stefan_Quartemont
Suggestion, can you highlight the key of tables in the auto fill in some way? I try to name my keys intelligently but some tables I work with are not created by me so the naming convention isn’t the same.
That’s a great suggestion. I’ll see what I can do.
There’s an update rolling out (3.002) that includes View names and the “_THIS***” expressions in the dropdown.
I am new to the extension and got this problem with multiples rows, does anyone get the same problem?
@Stefan_Quartemont It appears Toolbox is removing the AppSheet logo from help.appsheet.com.

I hope this is okay, but I just want to express my gratitude to the creators of this extension, because it has been amazing! I have a monster of an app, and I’ve saved so much time (days, maybe even weeks) on the production of it, all because I can easily enter column names and see a nice list of all the columns in my app. I’ve been using this extension for a little over a year and it’s been extremely helpful!
Hi @NinaDCS! Thanks for sharing that. I’m so glad you’re finding it useful and that it saved you so much time.
Makes my day
@Stefan_Quartemont Trying to access this seemingly wonderful tool, but I don’t see how that is possible. Could you help please? This is all I see.
It does not appear to create any kind of overlay menu like in the videos. I would like to access the recovery feature. Do I need a login to Appsheet training that is supposed to activate this?
Mi Markus. you can access recovery features as a standalone on our website: No Code Training Tools for the Citizen Developer - QREW Technologies
Once you’ve installed the Chrome Extension, it should show a little grey arrow tab on the top right of the AppSheet Editor window. This opens the side menu with all the features.
Hey @Stefan_QREW !
Is the extension still working?
It's not on my side
Doc links no longer work since the doc site migration.
Sure, but syntax highlighting is not working for me 😥
That's the feature I care about the most
